Our Story

Husband-and-wife duo Shahzaib “Shaz” Lalani and Mariam Lalani built Verity Behavioral Solutions with a shared vision: to create a space where children and families receive the highest quality, compassionate care rooted in authenticity and innovation. With Mariam’s deep expertise in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Shaz’s entrepreneurial prowess, they combined their strengths to bring Verity to life.

Mariam’s years of dedication to the field and her passion for making a real difference inspired Shaz to invest his business acumen and resources into building a clinic that not only meets but exceeds industry standards. Together, they’ve created a place where children can thrive, families feel supported, and therapists are empowered to deliver exceptional care. At Verity, their mission is simple—stay rooted in truth and driven by results.

Maria Bird-West Wheeler

M.Ed., BCBA, LBA. | Lead BCBA

I have been a BCBA since 2010 and have held leadership roles, including Clinical Director. As ABA providers, we must offer compassionate, consistent, and effective care so children and their families can grow, thrive, and reach their full potential.

Growing up with a sibling who had Autism (and was also my best friend), I learned early on the importance of adapting when something wasn’t working. Together, we discovered how to engage in reciprocal interactions, respect boundaries, and cooperate during play, chores, and daily activities. This experience helped shape my lifelong passion for helping children and families affected by Autism live more connected, meaningful lives.

I’m especially passionate about integrating Trauma Informed Care into all treatment plans. Autism and related disorders can have a deeply traumatizing impact, influencing everyday interactions, decisions, and experiences throughout a person’s life.

I currently live in McKinney, Texas, where I enjoy cooking, gardening, and feeding the birds that visit my backyard.
