At Verity We Use Intentional Design

At Verity we use Intentional Design to provide a welcoming atmosphere where clients and families can feel safe and comfortable to be themselves. We promote learning and progress through play and functional activities.

What is Intentional Design?

Intentional design is a preplanned approach for arranging spaces to be both meaningful and functional. Every aspect from furniture to lighting has a specific purpose. This ensures that each space serves a clear purpose, thus supporting the meaningful routines and goals being taught and implemented.

Verity’s intentional design provides:

·      Increased functionality: each space is planned and furnished with functional activities in mind; for example, gross motor movement activities take place in a different space than fine motor activities and loud, noisy activities take place in a different space than activities intended to be quiet and calming.

·      Emotional well-being: carefully designed spaces can positively impact behavior and help create a calm, predictable, low stress setting or provide an area for loud, active experiences, thus providing emotionally supportive options based on varying client needs.

·      Increased Independence: materials are stored in predictable locations, facilitating client independence when accessing needed materials.

·      Purpose: activities and related materials are purposefully made available in a specific area such that a client can efficiently, easily and independently access items needed for preferred activities available at that time.
